Three years of extreme drought have left many farmers in a very fragile situation. When it is so difficult to live from working the land, more than one considers abandoning the work of a lifetime. Industrial developers, businessmen and speculators find the right conditions to buy the land, often with the complicity of municipal governments that confuse the public good with private interest.
