Mutsoóngo Malaávu

Palm wine is a fermented alcoholic beverage extracted from the top of the palm tree. In West Africa it is associated with ancestors, as it is an important substance for the constitution of people and bodies. With an ethnographic perspective and an experimental approach, the film shows the routine of a palm wine taster in the Mayombe forest, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This male figure plays a fundamental role in the social life of the Yoombe. Images, sounds and music invite viewers to live a sensory experience, as if they were tasting the wine and immersing themselves in the Mayombe universe.
